Curriculum Development

With 6+ years of curriculum development experience as the Associate Director of Education for Alpha Kappa Psi, I have experience designing and developing curricula for collegiate students, alumni volunteers, and staff. Projects have ranged from one-hour training sessions to multi-day conference tracks, as well as a multi-week onboarding experience. Several of these experiences have also provided me the opportunity to facilitate the content in addition to creation.

Below are several project examples outlining my curriculum development experience. Due to proprietary ownership of content, limited information can be shared.

Presidents Academy and Fraternity Advisors Conference

This in-person weekend conference for Alpha Kappa Psi leaders promotes servant leadership. The conference has been in existence since 2016 and is tweaked annually based on evaluation feedback. Due to Covid-19, the conference was redesigned to deliver a similar experience in a fully virtual format, as well as a hybrid experience the following year.

Target Audience: Chapter Presidents and Advisors
Responsibilities: Curriculum Design, Facilitation, Evaluation
Resources Created: Facilitator Guide, Facilitator Training online course, Participant Pre-work online course, PowerPoint slide deck, Participant Manual, Event Evaluation
Software Utilized: Storyline 360 (Participant Pre-work), Thinkific (Learning Management System for online courses), Zoom (Facilitation)
Impact: After attending the event, attendees consistently express increased confidence in being able to lead their chapter and act as a servant leader.

Bridge to Brotherhood

After 10 years with its previous program, Alpha Kappa Psi’s new member education program was revamped to become the Bridge to Brotherhood. Utilizing research on chapters’ existing programs, the program was created to allow a combination of standardized training with flexible elective options. This approach ensured organizational needs were met, while still allowing chapters to tailor the experience to their local campus needs.

Target Audience: New members & chapter officers
Responsibilities: Curriculum Design and Development, Program Implementation & Training
Resources Created: Facilitator Guide, Module PowerPoint slide decks, Facilitator Training online course, Participant online course
Impact: The organization has greater insight into each chapter’s educational program to ensure chapters are following policies and are able to follow up with any discrepancies.

Brotherhood Unbounded

After years of research were conducted on the skills and topics necessary for success in the workplace, I helped Alpha Kappa Psi develop its comprehensive membership development program focused on four different pathways: Know Yourself, Build Your Team, Find Your Path and Practice Your Skills. I helped create the strategy by mapping out the content, as well as working with subject matter experts to design and develop the content for courses, including creating a certificate program based on topics in the different pathways.

Target Audience: Alpha Kappa Psi collegiate members
Responsibilities: Curriculum Strategy, Course Design and Development
Resources Created: Strategy mindmap, In-person sessions including facilitator and participant materials, on-demand courses
Impact: The organization has a clearer vision of the education it wants to and is able to provide based on its mission, and members are able to see how different offerings connect back to the organization’s vision as well as their own professional development.
